Tax Day Protests: A Way to Stand Up for Our Beliefs (ContributorNetwork)

Although I don't consider myself a member of the tea party, I find myself very much in tune with some of the tea party's beliefs regarding how the government should (and shouldn't) be. One major belief that the tea party holds is the idea of the government exhibiting fiscal responsibility and allowing its citizens to reap the rewards of their own labor. The tea party is very much against excessive taxation; something I also believe needs to be controlled. Just like 88 percent of the tea party members, I don't believe President Barack Obama is doing a good job. The job market is continually worsening and it doesn't seem as though it will ever improve.

The Tax Day protests, although not limited just to tea party members, are a big event that the tea party makes its presence known in. Tea party members all over the nation help to plan, recruit and carry out these protests and rallies; making their voices heard. These protests are a great political action for citizens to take and make their voices heard. If the citizens believe that the government needs to make changes, it is the responsibility of those citizens to step up and take a stand. Make the politicians recognize its faults and give them your ideas on how to fix the problems. These protests are one way citizens can do their part to bring about the better. If no one speaks out and no one complains, then there is no prompt for Washington to change.

Ever since I read about the Tax Day protests, I have been asking around trying to find out if there will be another hosted in my area. The tea party helped organize a protest in Kenai, Alaska, in 2009. A notice was published in the Peninsula Clarion and protesters gathered on the Kenai Spur Highway. The turnout was amazing and the protesters were more than willing to share what they believe the government needs in order to reform and improve.

Unfortunately, I have been unable to find out if a Tax Day protest will be occurring in my area. It seems that there won't be, but there has been talk of the organization of one. If there isn't, I may drive to Anchorage to join in on the protest along with so many other Alaskans who feel the same. Taxes are continually climbing, and as a country, it seems as though we're all receiving less and less in return for our hard earned money.
