6 Truths About Starting a Business Online (or Any Business ...

You've arrived on this page as you want to know everything about starting a business online.

However, the internet is full of people who want you to spend money on products that don't get you anywhere. They promise you the earth, but they don't even bring you back a dime. These sellers seem to want to keep people busy but without any reward for their hard work.

There are some scammers out there that will do anything they can to get your money. They will fill you with all kinds of ideas about making a million pounds by the end of the day.

It's time to look at a few truths on starting a successful business online:

Truth #1 'Free lunches' aren't Free!

Every business is going to cost you some sort of financial investment. When you're getting started it's very important to spend initial money very wisely. There are plenty of 'gurus' who claim that they can help you do this and that. They usually arrive with an expensive sports car, but can often come in other guises and do a lot of exotic travel. They give the impression that they haven't had to put any effort into making millions of dollars.

Well, let me tell you that the truth is very different from that. Every successful business takes time to work. It's not easy, you have to put time in when you don't really feel like it and you'd rather be doing something else. But that's just the price that has to be paid to make a good living, have fun, feel rewarded and inspired. As an entrepreneur you don't have a glass ceiling on the amount of money that you can make, the only limit is organising your time and effort so that it's spent on the right things.

Truth #2 Leverage is essential

If you're wondering what leverage is - it's getting everything and everybody optimised for maximum output. When resources and people work together, it's a lot easier to get better results than if you had one person doing it all.

Imagine, you are giving your house a makeover. If you had four people working on it instead of one, you'd be speeding along and making good progress. With 10 people on the job it would be done pretty fast indeed. That is why leverage is essential.

Truth 3# Friends and Family Don't Understand Your Job

In today's economy, it's rare to find somebody who lasts for 10 years in the same job. Our parents may have witnessed situations where people have had the same job for 40 years, but it's just not like that anymore.

These days you don't have to think traditionally - ever read the '4 Hour Week' by Timothy Ferriss? It turns any traditional thinking on it's head. You really can create your business to fit with your life, not the other way around.

Truth #4: Rome Was Not Built In A Day

In exactly the same way, you won't have a million dollar or even thousand dollar business in a matter of days. You need to have patience to keep working on the same business to give it time to grow. Some people jump ship to early and spend all their time preparing to make money but never actually make any.

Truth #5: Spend As Much Time On Your Business As You Would With Any Day Job

Treating your business like a sideline or a hobby isn't going to work. It won't grow very fast, if at all. You need to work the business just as you would a career. You need to set performance goals, network, balance your time and work hard to get ahead.

Truth #6: Multiple Income Streams Are Essential By setting up multiple income streams, you'll be insuring yourself against any changes. Nobody should put all their eggs in one basket when it comes to income. Google regularly change their search engine algorithms. If you business is set up to depend on something that you have no control over, you could end up in financial trouble.

What are you waiting for? Let's get going...

Arkansas GOP calls candidates' statements 'offensive'

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) ? Arkansas Republicans tried to distance themselves Saturday from a Republican state representative's assertion that slavery was a "blessing in disguise" and a Republican state House candidate who advocates deporting all Muslims.

The claims were made in books written, respectively, by Rep. Jon Hubbard of Jonesboro and House candidate Charlie Fuqua of Batesville. Those books received attention on Internet news sites Friday.

On Saturday, state GOP Chairman Doyle Webb called the books "highly offensive." And U.S. Rep. Rick Crawford, a Republican who represents northeast Arkansas, called the writings "divisive and racially inflammatory."

Hubbard wrote in his 2009 self-published book, "Letters To The Editor: Confessions Of A Frustrated Conservative," that "the institution of slavery that the black race has long believed to be an abomination upon its people may actually have been a blessing in disguise." He also wrote that African-Americans were better off than they would have been had they not been captured and shipped to the United States.

Fuqua, who served in the Arkansas House from 1996 to 1998, wrote there is "no solution to the Muslim problem short of expelling all followers of the religion from the United States," in his 2012 book, titled "God's Law."

Fuqua said Saturday that he hadn't realized he'd become a target within his own party, which he said surprised him.

"I think my views are fairly well-accepted by most people," Fuqua said before hanging up, saying he was busy knocking on voters' doors. The attorney is running against incumbent Democratic Rep. James McLean in House District 63.

Hubbard, a marketing representative, didn't return voicemail messages seeking comment Saturday. He is running against Democrat Harold Copenhaver in House District 58.

The November elections could be a crucial turning point in Arkansas politics. Democrats hold narrow majorities in both chambers, but the GOP has been working hard to swing the Legislature its way for the first time since the end of the Civil War, buoyed by picking up three congressional seats in 2010. Their efforts have also been backed by an influx of money from national conservative groups.

Rep. Crawford said Saturday he was "disappointed and disturbed."

"The statements that have been reported portray attitudes and beliefs that would return our state and country to a harmful and regrettable past," Crawford said.

U.S. Rep. Tim Griffin, R-Ark., kicked off the GOP's response Saturday by issuing a release, saying the "statements of Hubbard and Fuqua are ridiculous, outrageous and have no place in the civil discourse of either party."

"Had I known of these statements, I would not have contributed to their campaigns. I am requesting that they give my contributions to charity," said Griffin, who donated $100 to each candidate.

The Arkansas Republican House Caucus followed, saying the views of Hubbard and Fuqua "are in no way reflective of, or endorsed by, the Republican caucus. The constituencies they are seeking to represent will ultimately judge these statements at the ballot box."

Then Webb, who has spearheaded the party's attempt to control the Legislature, said the writings "were highly offensive to many Americans and do not reflect the viewpoints of the Republican Party of Arkansas. While we respect their right to freedom of expression and thought, we strongly disagree with those ideas."

Webb, though, accused state Democrats of using the issue as a distraction.

Democrats themselves have been largely silent, aside from the state party's tweet and Facebook post calling attention to the writings. A Democratic Party spokesman didn't immediately return a call for comment Saturday.

The two candidates share other political and religious views on their campaign websites.

Hubbard, who sponsored a failed bill in 2011 that would have severely restricted immigration, wrote on his website that the issue is still among his priorities, as is doing "whatever I can to defend, protect and preserve our Christian heritage."

Fuqua blogs on his website. One post is titled, "Christianity in Retreat," and says "there is a strange alliance between the liberal left and the Muslim religion."

"Both are antichrist in that they both deny that Jesus is God in the flesh of man, and the savior of mankind. They both also hold that their cause should take over the entire world through violent, bloody, revolution," the post says.

In a separate passage, Fuqua wrote "we now have a president that has a well documented history with both the Muslim religion and Communism."

Hospital bedsores linked to patient mortality

ScienceDaily (Oct. 1, 2012) ? A new clinical study spearheaded by the dean of UCLA's School of Nursing has found a direct correlation between pressure ulcers -- commonly known as bedsores -- and patient mortality and increased hospitalization.

The research is believed to be the first of its kind to use data directly from medical records to assess the impact of hospital-acquired pressure ulcers on Medicare patients at national and state levels.

According to the study, featured as the lead article in the current issue of the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, seniors who developed pressure ulcers were more likely to die during their hospital stay, to have longer stays in the hospital, and to be readmitted to the hospital within 30 days of their discharge.

To arrive at their findings, the researchers tracked more than 51,000 randomly selected Medicare beneficiaries hospitalized across the United States in 2006 and 2007.

"Hospital-acquired pressure ulcers were shown to be an important risk factor associated with mortality," said Dr. Courtney Lyder, lead investigator on the study and dean of the UCLA School of Nursing. "It is incumbent upon hospitals to identify individuals at high risk for these ulcers and implement preventive interventions immediately upon admission."

According to Lyder and his research team, individuals at the highest risk are those with existing chronic conditions, such as congestive heart failure, pulmonary disease, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity, as well as those on steroids.

In conducting the study, the researchers were challenged by the fact that there is no large single database to help determine the incidence of pressure ulcers among hospitalized Medicare patients. They therefore culled their data from Medicare's claim history, a national surveillance system designed to identify adverse events -- or "unintended harm" -- within the hospitalized Medicare population. The researchers looked at this data to determine the cause and patterns of hospital-acquired pressure ulcers.

The study found that 4.5 percent of the patients tracked acquired a pressure ulcer during their stay in the hospital. The majority of these bedsores were found on the tailbone or sacrum, followed by the hip, buttocks and heels. The study also revealed that of the nearly 3,000 individuals who entered the hospital with a pressure ulcer, 16.7 percent developed at least one new bedsore on a different part of their body during their hospitalization.

"This is a serious issue, and now we have data that can help the health care system address this ongoing problem," Lyder said. "When individuals enter the hospital with the risk conditions that we've identified, it should send up an immediate warning signal that appropriate steps should be taken to minimize the chance of pressure ulcers occurring."

In addition to Lyder, clinical researchers on this study included Yun Wang of Qualidigm, the Centers for Outcomes Research and Evaluation at Yale University, and Yale-New Haven Health; Mark Metersky of Qualidigm and the division of pulmonary and critical care medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine; Maureen Curry of Qualidigm; Rebecca Kliman of the Office of Clinical Standards and Quality at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services; Nancy Verzier of Qualidigm; and David Hunt of the Office of Health Information Technology Adoption in the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology.

The study was funded by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Two Americans killed in confused Afghan shootout

KABUL (Reuters) - Two Americans were killed in Afghanistan during an exchange of fire between NATO-led forces and the Afghan army that may have been the result of a misunderstanding, as the death toll of U.S. military and civilian personnel passed 2,000.

A U.S. official, who asked not to be identified, said on Sunday that an American soldier and a civilian contractor had been killed in the incident in eastern Afghanistan, the circumstances of which remain unclear.

The coalition initially said the incident may have been the result of an "insider attack" and another example of a member of the Afghan national security force turning on coalition troops in a war that began in 2001.

But it later said that nearby insurgent gunfire may have led to a misunderstanding.

"The circumstances were somewhat confused ... There was a report of insurgent firing taking place in this incident which we believe may have been a factor," Lt. General Adrian Bradshaw, deputy commander of the NATO-led coalition, said.

It was the latest setback for the coalition after the United States said joint operations with Afghan forces were returning to normal.

Joint operations were halted two weeks ago after a surge of attacks on the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) by its Afghan allies. At least 52 ISAF service members have been killed this year in so-called "green-on-blue" attacks.

The suspension of joint operations was a blow for NATO which wants to train the 350,000 members of the Afghan security forces so that they can try to ensure stability after coalition forces withdraw.

Pentagon data listing the number of U.S. troops and U.S. contractors killed in Afghanistan since combat began 11 years ago showed the two new deaths pushed the total combined number of U.S. personnel killed past the 2,000 mark.

The attack took place in the Sayed Abad district of the Wardak province, according to local police sources, who said a gun battle had broken out between coalition soldiers and Afghans when an Afghan National Army member opened fire on American troops.

Three members of the Afghan National Army were also killed in the firefight, while three other U.S. citizens and one Afghan were wounded, police spokesman Wali Mohammad said on Sunday.

"We appreciate the sacrifice of our fallen heroes, every death is tragic and important - none more than any other," ISAF said in a statement after the incident on Saturday.

Tension between coalition forces and their Afghan allies has been rising due to an escalation of so-called "insider" attacks, but Bradshaw denied the incident was a reflection of growing mistrust between Afghan and coalition forces.

"There is a very strong relationship between ISAF (the International Security Assistance Force) and our Afghan colleagues," Bradshaw told a press conference late on Sunday.

Separately on Saturday, police in eastern Kunar province said they had found the beheaded bodies of three male civilians in a forest.

The Taliban had kidnapped the men three days ago for allegedly spying for the government and NATO forces, Kunar police chief Shirwah Sameen told Reuters.

Russian nationalists want wedding shooters jailed

(AP) ? It was an unusual wedding escort even for Moscow's brash style: A red Ferrari led a motorcade in which guests fired celebratory shots from car windows as they sped down one of the city's main avenues near Red Square.

Sunday's parade drew an angry reaction from the Kremlin-controlled parliament, where senior lawmakers voiced outrage Monday after wedding guests from the province of Dagestan in Russia's North Caucasus walked away with $3 fines. Just one man was ordered to pay a $60 fine by police who stopped the motorcade just outside the Kremlin.

Video of the incident also prompted angry comments from ethnic Russians who denounced the wedding traditions brought into the Russian capital from the volatile Caucasus. Some called for tougher punishment for such behavior.

Vladimir Zhirinovsky, leader of Liberal Democratic Party, said Monday while people from the Caucasus see shooting guns as "a sign of joy," "here it's a sign of robbery, banditry." He suggested such incidents be punishable by up to two years in jail.

Sergei Zheleznyak of the pro-Kremlin United Russia party suggested that celebratory gunfire should land a 15-day jail sentence and substantial fines.

"Meager fines for hooliganism with the use of firearms are a mockery of law and common sense," he said.

Millions of mostly Muslim natives of Dagestan and other Caucasus provinces flooded into western Russia after the 1991 Soviet collapse. Some have formed ethnic gangs notorious for their cruelty, and many others have been involved in violent clashes with ethnic Russian nationalists and soccer fans.

Many Russians harbor anti-Caucasus sentiments, and even those who would not describe themselves as racist are resentful of the hefty subsidies sent to the Caucasus, particularly to Chechnya.

The money is designed to bring stability after two separatist wars in Chechnya, but the region remains deeply impoverished while provincial leaders and officials flaunt their wealth and are often seen driving expensive cars and throwing extravagant wedding parties.

A 19-year-old Chechen man was arrested for three days and fined $150 in 2010 after drunk-driving his SUV over the Grave of an Unknown Soldier just outside the Kremlin.

Alexei Navalny, an anti-corruption lawyer and popular blogger who has helped organize a wave of massive anti-Kremlin protests, said the wedding guests got away with tiny fines because of their connections.

"This single episode completely changes our ideas about what hooliganism and anti-social behavior are," he commented in his blog Monday.
